Just a Little Fun

Add a very fun idea to your Halloween decorating this year with a little scary miniature gardens. They are absolutely too fun to make. The possibilities are endless. You can work in any size and it’s suitable for almost any container. What is not to like?

But, here’s where it gets scary: you’re going to want to make more than one.

I’ve collected some mini garden ideas that to inspire you to get your own miniature Halloween garden and all you need is a little scary zombie, a wee miniature bench and some patio material to add to your planter, from America’s favorite garden center, TwoGreenThumbs.com, and you are all set for some very crafty, customizable fun – your Halloween guests will be squealing over them!

The rosettes are individual Hen & Chick plants, filled in with Sedum cuttings. This freshly planted 3″ wide, lil’ garden will last until next summer before needing some “work.” The tiny miniature brick patio & materials are from TwoGreenThumbs.com.

The tiny terra cotta pots can make great hostess-with-the-mostest gifts. Made with Sedum cuttings, this tiny garden will need repotting NEXT summer! Cut a piece of cloth to fit the patio area before you put in the stones and the little patio will stay together for longer. That’s Daphne the Digging Dog being mischievous again. The pot is 4 ¼” in diameter.

Easy and Fun, You Can’t Make Only One!

Here are a few examples of what you easily pull together in the next couple weeks – it might take you longer to find the right ingredients that it’ll take to put together the gardens! <<~>> If you are in need of anything for Halloween from our online store, tell us by replying the the order confirmation email, or leave a comment in the box during your checkout process, and we will expedite your shipping to get your Halloween ideas into the mail and to you as fast as possible. Perennial ground covers in a miniature garden
A couple of perennial ground covers in small pot with the right patio and miniatures can charm even your scariest ghoul. The wee patio is made from broken marble tile and set-permanent with our Mini Patio Mix Kit. Tiny “U” shaped hooks hold down the twig fence so you’re not fussing with it every time you move it. This garden will last until next spring. The pot is 7″ wide (at the tips of the hexagon.)

Make it To Last

If you want to make a miniature garden that you can grow with, decorate through the seasons and have fun doing “a little” gardening from time to time, just make sure you follow the golden garden rule “right plant right place.” That really means choosing the spot where the pot will live FIRST, then choosing the plants that will suit that spot. (Here is more on how to do that.)

Make it Temporary

If you want your mini Halloween garden just for a display/centerpiece at a party or to only last a couple weeks, the world is your haunted oyster. You can use just about any container even a pumpkin, just know that any gourd-like container will rot fast if not kept cold. For a lot more recycled container ideas see our Miniature Gardening in Recycled Containers, two part series, here.

Take It Inside

You can take your outdoor miniature garden inside for a party for a couple few hours but make sure it goes back outside before you go to bed. If the temps dip dramatically, stage it over 2 or 3 days so it’ll get used to the indoor / outdoor temperatures gradually, like a living Christmas tree.

Change your accessories, change your life! Er, I mean, your miniature garden… see Halloween happening below! This garden will stay together for years, the ground covers will need dividing every 2 years or so.
