In previous years, it was easier to recognize when the World Cup is on in our neighborhood. There’s always certain houses that have way too many cars parked out front at all times of the day and night. It’s the random cheers that are heard that sometimes whoop and holler for a few minutes. But I never watched a match before, nor even participated in a watch party.
Until this year. It’s been a blast to watch it come to life in my host city of Seattle. Okay, it didn’t hurt that the day we went downtown to one of the watch parties and my Canada team won 6-0 that day. That was way too much fun and – yes – I did get the t-shirt. Lol!

But I think the thing that’s doing it for me this year, what made me really take notice of “the beautiful game,” were the hundreds of thousands millions and millions of people who, around the world, and here on this North American continent, are having a blast watching the world’s top Futbol players work their craft.
And those scenes of joy and happiness all over the world makes this miniature gardener VERY happy. Especially during these overly-trying-times we’ve found ourselves in, and need relief from, to stay sane.

So, What’s a Miniature Gardener To Do?
Throw a watch party!
The first thing I did was refer back to an earlier World Cup party in miniature that we did a few years ago.
But this scene started with one question: What’s in a big, backyard garden watch party??
Well, before anything gets put in the garden, it needs to be party-ready – just like you would prep your own backyard before the guests arrive. Mow and trim the “lawn.” Weed the beds, deadhead the perennials and fluff the garden beds. Rake up any debris in the and finish-off the job by using a leaf blower dust buster to clean up the lawn and beds. (You might laugh, but it really works in a miniature garden!)
A little grooming goes a long way when everything it this close to the camera!

Then, Let the Fun Begin!
After that, and only after that – you don’t want to get your miniatures messed up or dirty before the party! You’ll need: Seating for a crowd and the food within reach. A big screen that everyone can see. Enough party decor to “represent” and feel festive. A barbecue & food area. And, of course, beverages for all.
The screen was the easiest call – and it’s kinda the reason for the party, right? An old iPad propped up at the right angle reads instantly as a big screen. I should have it up on a box or platform but I haven’t figured that out yet. (Shelter any tablet from getting wet and remember to bring it inside after the party.)

Let the Decorating Begin!
After the cleaning and rearranging is done, it’s time to get the decorations out. The flag-banners were handmade, the USA markers around the lawn of Baby Tears (Soleirolia soleirolii) were sandwich toothpicks. The tiny Fifa trophy was an expensive key chain – the Maple figure was an-even-more expensive key chain. That mini Mexico banner was found at local tienda. Two different sizes of flags: the small ones are toothpicks – and I made some about half of them – and the larger flags, we’ve collected over the years.

Happy World Cup!
Let me know if you have any questions about this miniature World Cup watch party below. I’m completely distracted this week – and right now – as half my brain is on the current match. Lol!
And may the best team win!!
